Matt and Kenz are amazing creatures. I heard my son explain the plight of the American Christian to his sister over the noise of Teen Titans this morning. In a nutshell: M: Starfire is spoiled. If she doesn't get her way she cries and her eyes change color. K: No she's pretty and she likes Robin. M: Yeah, but she does what she wants and gets into trouble. She didn't listen to her leader. Right Dad? Me: Huh? Yeah, that's right. M: She's an Israelite. Me: Huh? Starfire's an Israelite? Why? M: Dad...she didn't obey like the Israelites when they made the cow while Moses was talking to God. You told me that. Me: You're right Matt. That's pretty good. (I guess Robin would be Moses...who's God in Teen Titans?). M: She's spoiled, she does what she wants like the Israelites. She flew off to her planet, the others made a gold cow to pray to. Why a cow? Me: It was the easiest to make...and you can wear it as a necklace too. K: Starfire's still pretty. I went back to Blue Like Jazz because he has a chapter about a writer and doubt and the whole cow thing. His conclusion is the same as Matthew's...Israelites were spoiled and did their own thing. We're not so different from the spoiled Israelites today. We do our own thing, make our own gods, and fly off to our own planets (oops, mixed metaphors). You get the picture. I want God to answer my way 'cause it's a better picture of 'good' then His answer. I ultimately will do what I want, I just want some justification for doing it. I better get started on my cow scupture. Here's my pumpkin for Halloween.
